Who’s A Good Boy?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are pics of my best boys Jake<\/a>, Buddy<\/a>, and Samwise<\/a> – all Tibetan Terriers<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n

I was introduced to the breed with one of my family dogs, Max, during my second marriage. They are considered an ancient breed – once raised in the monasteries of Tibet. Thankfully, they were taken to England in the early 1900s by a British doctor who was given one as a token of good luck by a tribal chieftain. They were saved as a breed after the heavy hand of communist China crushed the Tibetans later that century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I jokingly say they are reincarnated Buddhist Monks. They have a very calm, somewhat cat-like temperament like other Asian breeds. I aspire to be the person each one of my handsome boys thought and thinks I am \ud83d\udc36\u2665\ufe0f!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweet Boy Jacob became my companion in August of 2016. The breeder told me that all of the pups from his mother were very sweet dogs, and boy-howdy was she right. He was a bit older and grew up in an outdoor kennel area until he was about 4 1\/2 months old. As a result, he was housebroken by the other dogs and has not had one accident (other than barfing) inside the house. As a funny aside – after I got him, I thought he had some kind of skin problem because his ears and nose were crusted over. It turned out to be dried dog food from eating out of a bowl that likely had water in it quite frequently!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike my other younger dogs, he was terrified when I brought him home. But he quickly adapted and took to the lead right away. We had a near miss when he was about eight months old, and he got smacked by a car hard enough to rupture his spleen. I got him to the vet right away, likely saving both of our lives. If there ever was a silver lining to a dark cloud – he is very cautious of the highway – I still keep my eye on him, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have had numerous adventures since! He took to the kayak and boat like he was a natural-born water hound. He loves to ride in the car more than anything else. We frequently visit his cousins Bonnie and Ellie in Panama City and their dog house in North Carolina. We’ve traveled over 30K mikes and spent a total of 6 months on the road in our RV Starship Excellent Adventure<\/a>. He took right to the RV like it was his dog house on wheels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddy was a firecracker! I got him when he was just 8 weeks old, and he was literally the “A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long” in the too-short time he was with me. He died at less than 6 months old and I don’t think I have ever been as broken up about the death of a pet. If I believed there was a reason for things to happen, I would say he taught me to appreciate the moment. He did teach me that, but his death was just a fucking<\/em> tragedy. I loved him with all my heart \u2665\ufe0f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loyal Companion Samwise was my first puppy after owning family dogs. He was bred in Fort Myers, Florida, and came to me in the Spring of 2004 when I was living in Atlanta. He lived with other dogs and, because of his demeanor and being the only male dog, always got the short end of the stick. I made it up to him later when we moved to Florida – just the two of us. He was a very sweet dog, and we had wonderful times on the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
