Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), a famous Zen Buddhist temple located in Kyoto, Japan. Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, it was later converted into a Zen temple. The current building was reconstructed in 1955. The top two floors of the pavilion are completely covered in gold leaf.
